Scoring clarification

Completed Pass: A player in control of the ball kicks or heads it to a teammate who touches it before a member of the opposition.

Completed Cross: A player is deemed to have crossed the ball if they play it past the front sideline of the six yard box, either in the air or along the ground, from an area outside the width of the penalty area but no further out than the edge of the penalty area. A long throw does not count as a cross. If it is successful it should be scored as a completed pass.

Tackle: A player dispossesses a member of the opposition who was in control of the ball. The player dispossessing does not need to retain possession of the ball himself or for his team.

Interception: A player from the side not in possession of the ball blocks a pass/cross/shot from reaching its intended destination. The intercepting player does not need to keep possession of the ball.

Goalkeeper Action: Any action that a goalkeeper carries out. This includes punches, catches, clearances and gathering the ball.

Save: If the goal keeper stops a shot on goal. The shot does not necessarily have to be on target for the keeper to score points for a save.

Shot On Target: A strike at goal that would have resulted in a goal had it not been blocked/saved. Shots blocked soon after being struck are not scored. However, if the shot is blocked by a defender close to the goal and would clearly have been going in (ie. a clearance off the line) then these are scored as shots on target.

Shot Off Target: A shot that either goes wide of the goal or hits the post.

Failed Pass: If a player passes the ball directly out of play without it touching anybody (including the referee) on it’s way out. A failed pass is not awarded if a player is kicking the ball out to allow the physio on or returning the ball as an act of sportsmanship.

Assist: An attacking player sets up a teammate to score a goal. This can be done by being the last player to pass the ball to the scorer before he scores, having a shot at goal saved or blocked before the scorer puts in the rebound or being fouled for a successful penalty.

Goal: A player scores a goal. If a player has his effort deflected into the goal by an opposition player then the goal shall be awarded to the attacker if the original effort was on target. Otherwise it is an own goal.

Foul: A player commits an offence, other than offside, and is penalised by the referee resulting in a free kick or penalty to the opposition.

Offside: A player is flagged by the assistant referee and the referee awards a free kick for the infringement.

Yellow Card: A player receives a yellow card.

Red Card: A player receives a red card. If a player is shown a second yellow card and then a red, only the red card should be spotted.

Own Goal: A player scores an own goal by either kicking, heading or deflecting an off target attempt into his own goal.
